Many experts warn about the side effects of too much screen time, e.g. tablets/electronic devices, can disrupt the child's hormonal balance and can ultimately lead to loss of creativity and social skills. Now Teebee – the ultimate portable toy box - is on a mission to challenge parents to swap their kids’ electronic devices with a stylish portable Toypod.
Teebee is a transportable, compact toy box for kids aged 4-12, designed to fit comfortably in the passenger seat of the car or a seat on a plane. The founders were tired of only having the tablet as a mean of pacifying the kids when travelling. The Teebee launched in June on crowd funding platform, Indiegogo and has already reached 125% of the initial goal in the first 24 hours.
Most parents recognize the frustration when travelling with kids fighting and making noise. The team behind Teebee had a goal to give children something different and better to pass time with than a tablet, especially when families are on-the-go.
Jens Ellegard & Michael Moncur, co-founders of the Teebee, explains: "We love tablets and smart phones, but as many others, there is also a fear of the consequences of spending too much time in front of the screen. We therefore decided to challenge the way children play when they are on-the-move, so that kids are entertained for hours avoiding the battery running out, having to strain their eyes and suffer from motion sickness.”
“Look around when you’re in an airport lounge waiting for the plane, when you’re at the petrol station in the family car next to you or when you’re on a ferry. Most of the kids are head-in to their devices, all blue in their faces with the 1000-yard stare or manically punching the screen. We decided to challenge the way children play when they are on-the-move and give them an offline alternative, so kids are entertained for hours avoiding the battery running out, having to strain their eyes and suffer from motion sickness.”
Both co-founders agreeing “We’re not fanatics, we just want to have some family time when we’re together and be able to get in contact with the kids instead of having banana shaped zombies in the back seat”
The idea came from looking at how some parents had already tried to solve this problem. "We noticed how creative parents glued Lego® plates to various boxes" CEO & co-founder, Lasse Johansen explains.
The box is wedged shaped and fits perfectly between the child’s legs while sitting and when open the lids transform in to a lap tray perfect for playing or drawing. Teebee comes with a sorting tray and plate for Lego®, Mega Bloks®, Kreo®, etc., but works for all kinds of creative toys. Teebee is robust and can accommodate the smaller pieces of toys, which children are usually not allowed to bring on a trip.
Teebee is produced in food safe materials, which makes it ideal as a lunchbox for both children and adults on the go.
