Winter Skiing in Wiltshire
Wiltshire is known for its wonder of the world (Stonehenge), chalk river valleys and even ancient woodlands and now it will be known for its first ‘Infinity Ski Slope’.
This groundbreaking innovation is brought to you by Nick Jenkins, Moonpig founder, former BBC Dragon and avid skier. Nick is aiming to bring the thrill of the mountains to this part of the world, offering ski enthusiasts of all ages and skill-levels the chance to master their skiing technique at any time of year.
When asked why he created South Wilts Ski Club Jenkins said: “I’m a very keen skier and I wanted to find somewhere for my daughter to practice between skiing holidays. I tried the Skieasy infinity slope in London myself and loved it, but it was always too busy to book and it was a 90 minute drive. I wondered if I could bring the concept to Wiltshire so in June last year, I started looking for a suitable building to base it in and now we are opening!”
Ideally situated in Bapton, near the junction of the A36 and the A303, between Warminster and Salisbury, the facility will offer ski enthusiasts an unparalleled opportunity to learn, refine their technique, or build slope fitness before the ski season.
The slope’s continuous, rolling surface provides unique advantages and Country Child were pleased to hear that the one-to-one private coaching with recorded video feedback allows you to grow with each visit. With exclusive access in your hour booking you can rest assured the time to get back up the slope or colliding with other skiers is massively reduced. There is a 2-4 people maximum to all bookings. Perhaps book the kids in for some pre season practice while you relax in the ‘scandinavian’ inspired club house with complimentary refreshments.
Although the concept of an Infinity Slope isn’t new, it was invented by Maxxtracks in the Netherlands, where there are 50 ski centres with 150 slopes. To date there are just four slopes open to the general public in the UK, including a now welcomed South Wilts Ski Club. The trek to reach any other centre in the south is generally over an hour and for families is an instant turn off. Country Child is warmly welcoming this new initiative.
South Wilts Ski Club will officially open on October 17, 2024, offering sessions starting from 30-minutes. Sessions run from Wednesday – Sunday (Wed 12:00 - 20:00; Thu & Fri 11:00 - 18:00; Sat & Sun 10:00 until 17:00) and cost from £30 per person for 30 minutes in peak time and £18 per 30 minutes off-peak (when booking a block of six sessions). Off Peak refers to school hours.
Book your session here: https://southwiltsski.com/ Ski boots, helmets, and skis are provided free of charge.
OPENING INCENTIVE
Nick and team are offering a staggering £1,000 prize to anyone who can ride the slope for a full hour! This would be the equivalent to running from the top of Everest to the bottom. - Challenge set, now can anyone meet that challenge?
