Knitters are invited to take part in an exciting new project, which hopes to see Winchester peppered with knitted King Alf figures this Summer.
The charity Play to the Crowd’s youth and community engagement team, Playmakers, are asking enthusiasts, and beginners, to knit figures of King Alf – after Alfred the Great, King of Wessex, whose iconic statue stands in the city – which can then be distributed around the city centre during Hat Fair – the UK’s longest running festival of Outdoor Arts.
A knitting pattern for the King Alf figure is available to download from the Playmakers website: www.playmakers.org.uk/community-projects/knitted-king-alf - where there is more information about the project, as well as a crochet pattern. Playmakers ask that completed knitted and crocheted King Alfs are sent to: Play to the Crowd, Theatre Royal Winchester, Jewry Street, SO23 8SB, by Friday 26th June.
