A Pick of Winter Holiday Deals
Luxury tour operator, Wix Squared, reveals travel packages to Sri Lanka, Morocco, the Maldives and Dubai, designed to ensure parents and pre-school-aged children get the break they deserve and maximize on the winter deals still to be had by booking early for summertime. Plus, top tips from Alex Wix for travelling with toddlers and tots.
Founded by mother of two Alex Wix, (who has travelled extensively with her own young children), Wix Squared apportions 60% of its business in 2023 to sending families on bespoke journeys to Morocco, Middle East, Asia and beyond.
Here are Alex’s personal top tips and travel package recommendations:
Alex Wix says, “Having been lucky enough to travel the world with my young children, I know all the tips and tricks to make my clients’ lives easier. It all starts with clever packing, ensuring parents maximize free luggage space and have the correct size pram to fit into the overhead. We look at flight times so that babies and young children can nap in the airport before a flight, or in the car to and from the airport. We also book seating near an exit, but not in an exit row, so parents don’t have to wait a long time to get off the plane.”
She continues, “In terms of the holiday itself, we only work with child-friendly guides, arrange age-appropriate activities where it’s possible to push a buggy or carry the baby in a sling, and we take extra care to book interconnecting rooms or suites with an extra bed or a bathroom big enough to fit a travel cot in. We also only send clients to kids’ clubs at properties we know offer exceptional care and have trusted babysitting services.”
Sri Lanka for Little Ones
Alex says, “Families shouldn’t be put off by the long-haul travel because once they are in Sri Lanka they will be so well looked after by the hotels and staff. We recommend starting in the tea country and staying in a spacious family suite within nature, then spending time on leopard safari and then visiting Galle where the whole family can explore by tuk tuk and even try out mask making together and take a river boat ride along Kapu Ela Canal.”
A seven-night trip for a family of four, including accommodation at Camellia Hills by Teardrop Hotels, Leopard Safaris Camp, Yala National Park, and Fort Bazaar by Teardrop Hotels, plus leopard safari, tuk tuk day trip in Galle and mask making is priced from £7,000, excluding flights.
Morocco Made Easy
Alex says, “As someone who lives and works in Marrakech – I can confidently say my guides are amazing with children. It’s also a country where everyone can have fun – whether it’s taking part in a market tour, camel ride, horse and cart ride, pottery making or watching glass blowing. The colours and cultural vibrancy of Morocco and the variety of city and desert landscapes make it easy to keep kids entertained.
“We usually recommend staying in a well located riad near to Marrakech’s Medina, experiencing more rural accommodation in the stunning valley of Ouirgane and then relaxing at a larger resort outside of the city to end the trip.”
A seven-night trip for a family of four, including family rooms and suites at riad Le Farnatchi, Marrakech, Domaine by Makassar, High Atlas, and The Fairmont, Marrakech, plus activities and English-speaking guide is priced from £7,500, excluding flights.
Maldives for Magical Memories:
Alex says, “You can’t beat the Maldives for service and the level of shining new facilities for young kids. If you want to be cocooned in paradise then the Maldives offers that lovely mix of relaxation, family time and the ability to take some ‘me’ time if needed. Niyama Maldives is one of the best for their Evening Club that allows tots to go in their pyjamas for movie night, allowing parents time to dine, private nanny services and a line-up of kids’ club activities from baking to discovering sea creatures that are almost so much fun, parents will be tempted to join in”.
A seven-night stay at Niyama Maldives for a family of four sharing a beach villa, with complimentary half board, transfers via domestic flights and speedboat is priced from £6,700, excluding international flights.
Dreamy Dubai
Alex says, “Dubai is a playground for adults and young children. There’s plenty of choice when it comes to hotels with kids’ clubs and excellent babysitting services, but there is also an abundance of things to do – from small water parks, Lego land, Smurf village, soft play areas, child-friendly beaches, and pop-ups in malls just for little ones.”
Wix Squared offers seven-nights at The Fairmont Dubai in a one-bedroom suite with breakfast and airport transfers priced at £2,000 per family of four, excluding flights.
