  • Rainy day Easter things to do

Having loads of fun on Easter as a family is expected, so let’s make the most of the

chocolate sugar high and have an unforgettable time…

When is Easter Sunday 2021?

It’s not the same day every year, but it’s always between 22 nd March and 25 th April. This year,

Easter Sunday is on the 4 th April 2021.

The date changes year to year because of the Lunar cycle, but as a guide, it’s always on the

first full moon after the Spring equinox. So, that gives you a few weeks to get all your Easter

fun plans in place to enjoy a fabulous family weekend.

Fun family Easter activities

Easter is synonymous with the spring season, daffodils and new life – its origins lie in the

resurrection of Jesus Christ after all. Ideally, you and your family will spend your time

enjoying nature and sitting in the sunshine, so here are a few family activities to help you

soak up some rays and breathe in the fresh air:

Egg and spoon races

Playing on the Easter egg theme, this classic school sports day challenge is perfect for all

ages and affordable to set up too – all you need are some spoons, eggs and that all-

important finish line!

Plant some flowers

Get green-fingered and plant some bulbs to brighten up your outside spaces. You can buy

flowering daffodils and bee-friendly blooms from most garden centres and supermarkets, just

choose a spot in your garden to plant them or set them up in indoor pots. It’s a great

opportunity for your kids to get messy with soil and compost. And they will learn about

growing things too, which has loads of developmental benefits. Just make sure they clean up

properly after.

Decorate the garden

If you’re planning to have a picnic or eat Sunday dinner outside, why not decorate your

plants and tables with some Easter decorations? You can hang egg decorations from trees,

make garlands and download printables to place around the space.

Have an Easter egg hunt

Try hiding a bunch of chocolate eggs or plastic fillable eggs around the garden with treats

inside. Top tip: your back yard play equipment holds loads of cracking places to hide things.

All you need to do it remember how many there are and send your kids off in search. Why

not make it more exciting with a prize for whoever finds the most?

Rainy day Easter things to do

The weather is a fickle thing and doesn’t always mesh with our plans, so it’s good to have

some indoor activities at the ready, just in case. The following are still fun, Easter-themed

and easy to do, so take a look:

Guess how many!

The simple idea here is to choose your favourite sweet – be it mini eggs, jelly beans or

something else – then fill a jar with them and ask everyone to guess how many there are.

With one prize for the winner, it’s a high stakes game that could win them a proper little

sweetie stash. The key thing is to remember how many you put in there (minus the few you

nibbled on as you filled up the jar).

Reading books

This one is a rainy day or a calm-down activity. Choose a book and snuggle down on the

safe and read a book together. You could take turns, do the voices and even act it out - it’s

wholesome and a nice time for everyone.

Chocolate fondue

Feeding off the chocolate theme of the day, why not consider having chocolate fondue for

Easter dessert? Everyone can choose their favourite fruits to chop up and dip in, and you

can personalise it for what everyone likes.

Easter baking

Another option for Easter pudding is to do some special baking together. For beginners and

kiddies, there’s chocolate nest cakes and bunny cakes which are easy to do together. For

the more advanced bakers, there’s the classic Easter Simnel cake or some hot cross buns.

Deliver Easter baskets

If you happen to do a bit too much baking, then surely your family and friends will

love some freshly-baked goods? Add them all to a special Easter basket along with

any extra decorations and bunny ears, then gift them away so they don’t go to waste.

Easter bonnets and Easter bunny ears

Not a fan of baking? Well, there are loads of crafty things to do. Making some interior

Easter décor is a good option and can keep you busy for ages. You could also try

this bunny ear tutorial or make the classic Easter bonnet similar to the ones you used

to make in school.

Go to Church

It is a Christian celebration, so why not educate your little ones on the origin of the

chocolatey holiday with a visit to the local Church for their Easter Sunday service?

Easter is a family celebration, a chance for Easter crafts and activities to bring

you all together. So, why not plan a few of the above ideas for the weekend

and get ready to make some memories.
