Animal Welfare Charity to launch 2.6 Challenge for Lockdown
Animal welfare charity Worldwide Veterinary Service, like so many charities across the UK, has been hugely impacted by the cancellation of thousands of fundraising events due to COVID-19 restrictions. In response, the organisers of the biggest mass participation sports events across the country have come together to create a new campaign to raise vital funds to help our fundraising and save the UK’s charities.
The campaign, The 2.6 Challenge, will launch on Sunday 26 April 2020 – what should have been the date of the 40th London Marathon, the world’s biggest one day annual fundraising event, which raised £66.4 million for charities in 2019. The challenge will last for a week.
From Sunday 26 April 2020, Worldwide Veterinary Service is asking kids of all ages to complete the 2.6 challenge with a series of fun, animal-related tasks. These daily missions, run through the charity’s ‘Young Vets Club’, will include navigating 26 laps of the garden dressed and acting as an animal of their choice, re-designing the 26 letters of the alphabet to include animals, and much more besides.
The charity’s International Education Manager, Nicky Cook, said: “The 2.6 challenge not only keeps kids entertained and learning while schools are closed, it also helps raise vital awareness and funds for forgotten victims of this pandemic – animals in need. We’re asking those who take part to fundraise as much as they can to allow Worldwide Veterinary Service to continue providing vital veterinary aid globally during these difficult times.”

Anyone can take on the 2.6 challenge! It’s up to you to dream up an activity based around the numbers 2.6 or 26 and fundraise by donating on the 2.6 Challenge donation page https://go.wvs.org.uk/twopointsix, or by creating your own 2.6 Challenge fundraising page for the charity.
Luke Gamble, Founder and CEO from Worldwide Veterinary Service said “This event could really be a lifesaver to so many animals in need around the world. Our teams are providing emergency veterinary care and rescuing animals in the middle of challenging global lockdowns.
Whatever you choose to do, you will be ensuring that animals receive the vital care they deserve. You can take part at your own pace and in your own house or garden – so the challenge is open to everyone. All we ask is that you donate £26 to our challenge page, or set up your own page and have your own target to raise, could you raise £260?”
