I am thrilled to be joining the team at Stroud and King Edward’s. I will bring to the role a real passion for developing a culture of high performance within the incredibly warm family environment that makes the school so special.

In-keeping with the theme of Culture and the World in which we live…

On Thursday 7th November, Stroud School held its Language and Culture Day. The aim of the day is to promote and enthuse students with the language, culture and civilisations that are within our world. A multitude of activities were held that touched on a variety of cultures, such as Portuguese, Afrikaan, Turkish, Danish, Punjabi and Chinese /Mandarin. Although the main focus of the day was on French, Spanish, German and the Japanese language.

The children thoroughly enjoyed many cross-curricular events, such as making (and eating!) croissants and peppermint creams, and listening to the sounds of the Scottish Pipes. In addition to this, the children also took part in Japanese sessions, Chinese story-telling, and welly dancing!

In Art, they created some ‘calacas y calaveras’, which are a symbol of the ‘Day of the Dead’ celebrated in the whole of Latin America and California, and were treated to professional lessons in Latin dancing, where they tried their best at learning the Salsa, Paso Doble and Cha Cha Cha.

An understanding of the various cultures within our world is paramount within today’s society…

Stroud is very keen to expose its pupils to different languages. The School believes that a greater language learning experience leads to the development of the skills and confidence needed for children to perceive themselves as ‘Global Citizens’. Stroud School believes it is paramount that children are given the opportunity to become multi-lingual as the immersion in a foreign culture can open new avenues of self-exploration and personal growth.
