Bournemouth Mentoring Charity up for Glittering Award
The Girls’ Network, which mentors and empowers girls in the Bournemouth area, are appealing for votes after reaching the finals of the National Lottery Awards – the annual search for the UK’s favourite National Lottery-funded projects.
The charity beat off stiff competition from over 700 organisations to reach the public voting stage in this year’s National Lottery Awards, which celebrate the inspirational people and projects who do extraordinary things with National Lottery funding.
The winners of the seven National Lottery Awards categories will each get a £5,000 cash prize to spend on their project, an iconic National Lottery Awards trophy and attend a star-studded glitzy awards ceremony to be broadcast on BBC One on 26 September 2018.
The Girls’ Network needs local votes to win Best Voluntary/Charity Project. The Girls’ Network draws on female role models to ensure all girls have the support they need to realise their ambitions - irrespective of their background, gender or parental income. Mentors with experience of the workplace meet regularly with the girls over a year, exploring career opportunities, developing their skills and providing them with support to achieve their goals through education and beyond.
CEO and Co-Founder, Becca Dean, says winning a National Lottery Award and being showcased on national television would be an honour:
“We’re thrilled to have made it through to the finals and hope that everyone will support us in these awards.
“The Girls' Network matches female role models with 14-19 year old girls, to ensure bright futures are not limited by background, gender or parental income. We would love for these awards to shine a light on our fantastic mentoring scheme.”
“We’d like to say thank you to the players of the National Lottery for supporting this project, the funding we received has enabled The Girls’ Network to work with over 1,200 girls each year across London, Greater Manchester, West Midlands, Liverpool, Newcastle, Portsmouth and Brighton."
Musician, activist and National Lottery Awards Ambassador, Professor Green, says: “It’s thanks to National Lottery players, who raise over £30 million each week for good causes, that extraordinary projects like those in the finals of the National Lottery Awards are possible.
“The Girls’ Network are doing an incredible job for the benefit of their local community and the work they do is hugely impressive. So what are you waiting for? Give them your support and get voting!”
